BURLINGTON — Christine Whitesell Bailey, 90, of Alamance Health Care and formerly of The Homeplace of Burlington, went home to be with her Lord and Savior at the Hospice Home in Burlington on Friday, July 16, 2010 after several years of failing health.

Maw-Maw, as the grandchildren called her, truly delighted in her grandchildren. Her presence brightened their day as it was often difficult to distinguish the child from the adult. Maw-Maw was simply a child at heart.

Her dedication to her children and grandchildren was never ending. On a moment’s notice she would drop everything to assist her family and the needs of others. Her tireless efforts in assisting individuals, was never on display as she continuously worked behind the scenes.

As children, we are especially gratefully for her never ending love for us and teaching us right from wrong. She supplied our needs and directed us to serve the Lord.

A native of Guilford County, she was the wife of James E. Bailey for 64 years, who survives and the daughter of the late Eddie Hildrey Rankin Whitesell and the late Callie Alventine Michael Whitesell. Christine was a retired employee of Tower Hosiery and a member of Grace Bible Fellowship.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her two sons, Ray E. Bailey and wife Glenda of Elon and Ricky L. Bailey and wife Janet of Burlington; one sister, Jewel W. Baldwin of Greensboro; one brother, Otis B. Whitesell of Elon; four grandchildren, Ray E. Bailey, Jr. and his wife Laura of Gibsonville, J. Rodney Bailey and his wife Mala of Burlington, Kathryn B. Crawford and her husband Ryan of Burlington, and Beverly L. Bailey of Raleigh; three grandchildren, Hunt, Caroline and Aanya Bailey.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Zora Smith and her husband Weldon, Ethel Tate and her husband John; six brothers, Conrad Whitesell and his wife Aubra,WillieWhitesell, Dwight Whitesell and his wife Nova Holder, Howard Whitesell and his wife Pennie, BriceWhitesell and wife Annie Mae, and James Whitesell and wife Margaret; sister-in-law Helene Whitesell; and brother-in-law, George Baldwin.

The funeral service will be conducted at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Sunday, July 18, 2010 at 4:00 p.m. by Pastor Ken Harman. Burial will follow in Alamance Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends at the Rich & Thompson Mortuary in Burlington on Sunday from 2:00 until 3:30 prior to the funeral service.
