Nellie Scruggs Brown dies at age 101


    GIBSONVILLE — Nellie Scruggs Brown, 101, of High Rock Road, passed away on Friday, November 21, 2008, at Blumenthal Jewish Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born on August 21, 1907, in Campbell County, Va., to the late Edward Coleman and Ella Eades Scruggs and was married to the late Porter Wesley Brown. Mrs. Brown was a homemaker and was the oldest living member at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church.
    She is survived by her daughter, Lucille Brown Pickrell of Gibsonville; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends and neighbors. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sons, Warren A. Brown and C. Newman Brown; sonin-law, Thomas B. Pickrell; twin sisters, Mary Scruggs and Martha Dudley; and brothers, Henry and Jerry Scruggs.
    The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 23, 2008, at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church by the Rev. C. Allen Myers III, the Rev. Tim Geiger, the Rev. Larry Andrews and the Rev. Don Ledbetter. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
    The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the home.
    Mrs. Brown’s daughter, Lucille would like to say a special "Thank You" for the love and special care shown to "Mama Brown" by Dr. Karrar Husain, Nurse Nicole, and care givers, Robert Holt, Naomi Howard, Obas Henorck, Teresita Keqgh, Teresa Hayes, Sunday Lgbokoyi, Augusta King, Joseph Unoaha, Shemea McCullum, Emmanuel Gyamfi and John Alioche.
    Memorials may be made to Apple’s Chapel Christian Church, 7345 Hwy. 61 North, Gibsonville, N.C. 27249.
