Mrs Nancy Elizabeth Finley
July 16, 1935 ~ December 23, 2019 (age 84)
“Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die.’” John 11: 25-26 (ESV). Mrs. Nancy Whitesell Finley, 84, of Elon entered heaven on Monday, December 23, 2019.
Born in Alamance County, she was the wife of Sam Finley and the daughter of Robert Franklin Whitesell and Dora Nancy McPherson Whitesell.
Mrs. Finley was a 1953 graduate of Elon High School. She retired from the insurance industry and was a member of the Banker’s and Shippers’ Ladies Group. Her love of Jesus and the local church guided her life of faithful service. She was a lifelong devoted member of St. Mark’s Church where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the Christian Workers Sunday School Class and Circle #2. She was known for being a true Southern Lady (Fancy Nancy) who always welcomed others with a warm smile and homemade desserts.
In addition to her husband, Sam, survivors include three daughters, Sherri Davila and husband David of Knightdale, Susan Tilley and husband Tony of Wilson, and Nancy Carpenter and husband Brooke of Burlington; three grandchildren, Adam Davila, Caleb Carpenter, and Caroline Carpenter; three great-grandchildren, Sammy, Sawyer, and Scarlett Dean; sister, Joan Barbee of Burlington; and numerous nieces and nephews that were dear to her heart. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katy Tilley Dean; two sisters, Ella McPherson and Mary King; and five brothers, Jacob, Carroll, Robert, Frank, and Larry Whitesell.
The service celebrating Nancy’s life will be conducted at St. Mark’s Church on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. with the family receiving friends in the Atrium at St. Mark’s Church from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to St. Mark’s Church, 1230 St. Mark’s Church Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215. 3, Nancy Elizabeth Finley
