Horace Lee Freeman Sr.


    BURLINGTON — Horace Lee Freeman Sr., 87, of 2217 Walker Ave., passed away suddenly Wednesday, January 22, 2009 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. He was the husband of Donna Mansfield Freeman and was born January 2, 1922 in Greenville, S.C. to the late Garnett Lee and Gladys Cobb Freeman.
    Horace was the C.E.O. of Carolina Narrow Fabric in Winston-Salem, a member of the First Christian United Church of Christ, and also a member of the Burlington Lions Club where he had served as President, Director and Zone Chairman. He was a past member of the Burlington Jaycees and President of Ocean Point Homeowners Association in Ocean Isle, N.C. He also served in the Army Air Force during World War II.
    Survivors include his wife of the home; a son, H.L. "Buster" Freeman Jr. and his wife Linda of Greensboro; a daughter, Carol Jo Cameron and her husband Dub of Florence, S.C.; grandchildren, Jeffrey Lee Freeman and his wife Meredith of Burlington, Elizabeth Freeman Shouse and her husband Marshall of Cary, N.C. and a sister Hazel Jean Freeman of Burlington.
    The funeral will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Christian United Church of Christ by Rev. Scott Comrie. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery.
    The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. Saturday prior to the service in the Bray Fellowship Hall at the church and at other times at the home.
    In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church UCC, P.O. Box 1678, Burlington, N.C. 27216.
