Obituary Online notes for “Coonie” Jacob HOFFMAN
This family lived in Green River, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky, but Jacob Huffman arrived by flatboat "from KENTUCKY" on June 28, 1790. He appeared in the Natchez Mississippi Court Record in 1791 and in the Spanish Census of The Natchez District in 1792. Jacob was the original owner of 320 acres of land along the Mississippi that was sold in 1806 to an Anthony Glass. On September 16, 1809, Jacob filed that he had been in possession of the land before 1800.
On the 1792 Spanish Census of Southwest Mississippi, There is a Huffman, Jacob living in the same district as his son's wife's parents (Clarks), plus all the Coles, Simmons, and Formans who later moved to Louisiana. Jacobo is listed in Villa Gayoso with a woman, 3 boys, one girl and himself.
