George Jordan Clapp Sr. BURLINGTON — George Jordan Clapp Sr., 87, passed peacefully on Friday, the thirty - first of July 2015.
He was honored to have served in the United States Navy, and was a life - time member of St. Mark’s Church. George loved the outdoors, playing tennis and camping. He fulfilled his talent and passion for woodworking by crafting fine furniture and grandfather clocks and by whittling Ozark characters.
The second generation owner of Southern Engraving Company of Greensboro, he retired in 1992 after 47 years of manufacturing genuine engraved stationery.
George is survived by his beloved wife of more than 66 years, Frances Lindley Clapp. Other survivors are daughter, Linda Clapp Tripp and husband Jim of High Point; son, George “Jordan” Clapp Jr. and wife Carole of Greensboro; and daughter, Liz Clapp Garrison and husband Nate of Burlington; seven grandchildren, Jack Gleason, Josh Gleason, Heather Clapp O’Dell, Brie Clapp Smith, Matt Judy, Hannah Judy and Jessica Judy; two greatgrandchildren, John and Taylor Gleason. He is also survived by his brother, Bill Clapp, of Kingsport, Tenn.
George was the son of John W. and Ethel Jordan Clapp, and was preceded in death by his sister, Dr. Margaret “Peg” Clapp Conrad; as well as his grandson,
Jeremy Patrick Gleason. His family will welcome friends
in the Atrium at St. Mark’s Church, 1230 St. Mark’s Church Road, Burlington, on Saturday, the eighth of August from 2:45 - 3:45 p.m. The service celebrating his life will follow in the original sanctuary at 4 p.m. with the Rev. Ben Bishop officiating.
