THOMASVILLE – Myra Davis Whitesell, 86, formerly of Archdale, passed away August 17, 2011 at Pine Ridge Health & Rehabilitation Center in Davidson County, where she was a resident.
She was born December 20, 1924 in Randolph County to the late Lewis S. and Lula Hohn Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, James H. Whitesell, and her brother, D.S. Davis.
Until recently, Myra enjoyed playing Rook with family and friends, sewing and creating crafts, and helping others. She was a member of Cedar Square Friends Meeting and the Veva Davis Sunday School Class.
She is survived by her three children: Jim Whitesell of Palm Coast, Fla. and his wife, Jane; Carol Whitesell Beane of Thomasville and her husband, Darrell; and Phil Whitesell of Charlotte and his wife, Sherri.
She is also survived by her eight grandchildren: Eddie Whitesell of Trinity; Andy Whitesell of Thaxted, Essex, England and his wife, Tamsin; Chuck Whitesell of Tucson, Ariz., Scott Beane of Trinity and his wife, Lori; Maria Beane Dickenson of High Point and her husband, Kris; Jason Beane of Charlotte; Geoffrey Whitesell of Santa Monica, Calif.; and Emily Whitesell of Corolla.
She also is survived by eight great-grandchildren; her sister, Myrtle Davis Hollingsworth of Randleman; her sister-in-law, Bernice Davis of Randleman, and her many nieces and nephews whom she dearly loved.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, August 21 at 3:30 p.m. at Cedar Square Friends Meeting by the Rev. Mike Butler. Visitation is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall at Cedar Square Friends Meeting.
Memorials may be directed to the Multi-Media Project at Cedar Square Friends Meeting, 7546 Harlow Road in Archdale, N.C., 27263.
The family wishes to thank all the nurses, nursing assistants and other staff members at Pine Ridge for their total love, concern and gentle care given to Mrs. Whitesell.
