Mr. John Howard Whitesell
WHITSETT — Mr. John Howard Whitesell, 79, of Whitsett, died Tuesday, Feb. 8, 2000,
at Twin Lakes Center in Burlington.
He was the husband of Mrs. Helen Whitesell, who survives, and Mrs. Fannie Holt
Whitesell, who died in 1993. He was the son of Mr. Ernest David Whitesell and Mrs.
Flossie Gerringer Whitesell, both deceased. He was president of Mount Hope United
Church of Christ Memorial Association and served on many other committees during his
service to his church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include two sons, Mr. John H. Whitesell II of
Charlotte and Mr. Joel B. Whitesell of Greensboro; two daughters, Ms. Sonja F. Whitesell
of Greensboro and Mrs. Priscilla W. Kearns of Kingsport, Tenn.; four sisters, Ms.
Mildred Shoffner and Ms. Doris Greeson, both of Burlington, Ms. Laura Clapp of
Whitsett and Ms. Hilda Lamb of Greensboro; a brother, Mr. Ernest David “Ed” Whitesell
Jr. of Whitsett; three grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at Mount Hope United Church of Christ.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at the home.

Alzheimer’s Association, 3420 Shamrock Drive, Charlotte, N.C. 28215.
