Laura L. Whitesell Clapp WHITSETT — Laura L. Whitesell Clapp, age 92, passed away Friday, August 28, 2015, at Clapp’s Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden having been a resident there for almost six years. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held Sunday, August 30 at 2 p.m. at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Laura was the daughter of Ernest David Whitesell, Sr. and Flossie Caroline Gerringer Whitesell and was the fourth of six children. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ben D. Clapp; brother, J. Howard Whitesell; and two sisters, Doris W. Greeson and Hilda W. Baites.
Laura is survived by her children, A. Ronald Clapp and wife Doris of Julian, Gerry D. Clapp of Charlotte, and Bradley N. Clapp and partner Ted Turner of Atlanta, Ga. Also surviving are grandson, Christopher
L. Clapp and wife Leslie R. Clapp and their son, Carson H. Clapp of Wilmington; one sister, Mildred W. Shoffner of Cary; brother, Ernest D. Whitesell, Jr. of Whitsett and 15 very loved nieces and nephews.
Laura was a lifetime member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ in Whitsett, to which she was very devoted, and was a lifetime resident of Whitsett, with the exception of brief stays in High Point and Wilmington, N.C. She was retired from the Guilford County School System having worked at Alamance School, the same school from which she graduated in 1940.
Her passion was cooking with love and insisting that you partake and never leave without a doggy bag. It was simply her way of expressing love and you experienced the longest good-byes ever as she followed you out. She was known for her yeast rolls which she shared with many lucky recipients. Laura was never heard to utter an ugly word nor say anything disparaging about anyone. She loved her God, her family, her church and the birds which frequented the feeders and houses in her yard. She was beautiful inside and as a young woman was physically beautiful, although she never knew it.
When you think of goodness in this world, think of Laura Whitesell Clapp. She was so justly proud of being a Whitesell.
