Alton Alfred Whitesell
GIBSONVILLE — Alton Alfred Whitesell, 67, of 7302 Drew Sharpe Road, died Friday, Nov. 2, 2001, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. A native of Guilford County, he was the husband of Marlene Friddle Whitesell, who survives, and the son of Howard Anderson Whitesell and Pennie Andrews Whitesell, both deceased. He was a life time farmer, was retired from Western Electric Company, and later worked and Food Lion. He was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church where he was a Deacon, member of the Board of Christian Education, Treasurer of the Special Projects Fund and a Sunday School Officer. He was also a member of the A.O. Civitan Club. Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Sherry (Keith) Burris of Greensboro; two sons, Van A. (Joanna) Whitesell of Greensboro and Ken A. (Rachel) Whitesell of McLeansville; seven grandchildren, Bradley, Hallie and Heather Burris, and Spencer, Madison, Megan and Lauren Whitesell; two sisters, Ms. Patricia Billings of Ronda and Mrs. Dorothy Sykes of Elon; and a brother, Clayton A. Whitesell of Alexandria, Va. The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Bethlehem Christian Church by the Rev. Dave Gilbert, pastor. Burial will be in Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery. Mr. Whitesell will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until carried to the church to lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 4 until 7 p.m. today, and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Bethlehem Christian Church Special Projects Fund, P.O.
