Thelma Chrismon Whitesell


    GIBSONVILLE — Thelma Chrismon Whitesell, 91, passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010 at Moses H. Cone Hospital.
    A 3 p.m. funeral service will be held Sunday, May 30 at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church in Gibsonville with the Rev. C. Allen Myers III officiating.
    A Guilford County native, Thelma was born on May 20, 1919 to the late Ira Chrismon and MyrtleWyrick Chrismon. Mrs. Whitesell retired as a seamstress from Dixie Belle in 1998 and enjoyed sewing, reading, cooking and especially working in her rock garden and spending time with her extended family. She was a lifelong member of Apple’s Chapel Christian Church.
    Thelma was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Hurley Whitesell. She was also preceded in death by brothers Jesse Chrismon, Loyd Chrismon, the Rev. Pete Chrismon, Jake Chrismon and sister Fleta Coltrane.
    Mrs. Whitesell is survived by son, Jimmie Whitesell and wife Jean of McLeansville; daughter, Linda Goodman and husband Dwane of Gibsonville; brothers, Golden Chrismon, Eugene Chrismon and Donnie Chrismon, all of Browns Summit; grandchildren, Martina Wrenn, Brian Whitesell, Michelle Whitesell and Derrick Goodman. In addition, she is survived by 12 greatgrandchildren.
    A family visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, May 29 at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church.
