George Arthur Zimmerman of Mountain Home, Arkansas passed away 16 Aug 2017. He was born in Gibsonville, NC to Nieffer and Nettie Zimmerman on 14 Aug 1918.
George married Maggie (Madeline) Madren on 13 May 1939 in Danville, VA. To this union were born three children, Mary Phyllis and David. George and Madeline spent the next several years traveling while he worked construction, including building airplane hangars during World War II. In 1949, George took a job as a carpenter with the Village Maintenance department of American Potash & Chemical Corporation in Trona, CA. In 1954 he and Madeline stated a lumber and hardware store (Zimmerman Building Supply) in Trona, which he sold just after Madeline's death in 1970.
George Zimmerman married Ruth (McClure) Stockburger on 24 Jul 1972 in Tennessee. He and Ruth bought a house with acreage in Mountain Home, Arkansas. Although George enjoyed the large gardens, fruit trees and woodlot on his new home,he still wasn't quite ready to retire his woodworking tools, so he spent several years remodeling his home, doing custom woodwork for a local boat company and helping out friends and neighbors on various projects. Ruth died after lengthy illness in 2003.
On 3 Jul 2006, George married an old school acquaintance, Marie (Barber) Meadow in North Carolina. They continued to live in Mountain Home, although they sold their large country-living house and moved into a duplex which was easier to maintain in 2016.
George is survived by his wife Marie of Mountain Home, AR, children Mary (David) Bersani of Brea, CA, Phyllis Knobelauch of Santa Rosa, CA and David (Laural) Zimmerman of Trona, CA. He is also survived by two s top-sons, James (Hazel) Stockburger of Clinton, TN and Rhea Stockburger of Oliver Springs, TN. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Matthew (Sally) Bermani of Renton, WA, Keith Knobelauch of New York, NY, Jeniece (Jermy) Aragon of Sebastopol, CA, Neil Zimmerman of Somerville, MA and Dale Zimmerman of Ridgecrest, CA. He also had two great-grandchildren, Kallie Mae Aragon and Jay Michael Aragon and many, many nieces and nephews.
George was preceded in death by his parents, his sibling and their spouses: Mildred (James) Kirkman, Irene (Ernest) Newby, Grace (Richard) Moore, Gaynell (Jesse) Wicker, Kenneth (Mildred) Zimmerman, two wives: Madeline (Madren) Zimmerman and Ruth (McClure Stockburger) Zimmerman and one step-daughter, rhonda (Stockburger) Flatley.
George was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, beginning with his membership at Peace Lutheran Church in Gibsonville, NC, continuing with membership at Our savior's Lutheran Church in Ridgecrest, cA and ending with his membership at Redeemer Lutheran Church of Mountain Home.
