David Calvin Somers
ELON — David Calvin Somers, 66, of 2336 Old Highway 87, died Wednesday, July 30, 2003, at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following several months of failing health. He was a native of Alamance County and the son to the late Ernest G. and Lecy Wagoner Somers.
Calvin was a member of Fairview United Methodist Church where he had perfect attendance for 23 years and a member of the C.M. Tickle Sunday school class. He was an avid Washington Redskins and New York Yankees Fan. He had been employed by Fosco’s Gas Station, Industrial Plastics, Inc. and Somers Manufacturing Company, Inc.
Survivors include sisters, Betty Somers McIntyre and her husband Edsel of Elon, Gladys Somers Lancaster of Virginia Beach, VA.; brothers, Lt. Col. Retired Joseph C. Somers and his wife Nita of Montgomery, AL, Daniel E. Somers and his wife Sabra of Burlington, John D. Somers and his wife Ramona of Burlington; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Somers Jones; brothers, George “Richard” Somers and Boyd Wagoner Somers.
The funeral will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2003 at Fairview United Methodist Church by Rev. Dr. Ron Gardner, Rev. Daniel Gregory and Mr. Brian McIntyre. Interment will follow in Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home of a brother, Daniel Somers, 2645 Birch Lane, Burlington.
