Mr. James O. Gregory
BURLINGTON — Mr. James O. Gregory, 76, of 12671 N.C. 62 South,
died at 8:32 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at his residence after an
illness of three months.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of Mrs. Peggy
Johnson Gregory, who survives, and the son of Luell Walter Gregory
and Bertha Clayton Gregory, both deceased. He was retired from
Southern Bell after 37 years of service. He was a veteran of World War
II and served with the U.S. Army Signal Corps. He was a member of
The Telephone Pioneers of America, the Ruritan Club, with 30 years
of service, and the Exchange Club. He was a member of Bethel United
Church of Christ.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs.
Karen Jayson and husband, Morty, of Cary; two sons, Mr. Michael W.
Gregory and wife, Robin, of Elon and Mr. Timothy D. Gregory and wife,
Amanda, of Burlington; three granddaughters, Miss Jessica Gregory,
Miss Anna C. Gregory and Miss Christine Fogleman; and three
grandsons, Gregory D. Jayson, David Alexander Gregory and Daniel
Gregory.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Mr. Clarence Gregory and
Mr. Ollice Gregory, and a granddaughter, Miss Courtney R. Gregory.
A memorial service will be conducted at at 3 p.m. Thursday at Bethel
United Church of Christ in Caswell County by the Rev. Paul Stennett,
Dr. Walstein Snyder and Mr. Daniel Gregory. Burial will be in the
church cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6
to 8 this evening, and at other times at the residence.
