Mr. Vance R. Somers
WASHINGTON — Mr. Vance Riley Somers, 71, formerly of C.B.H. Lodge Road, died Saturday, July 31, 1999, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
Born Oct. 20, 1927, in Alamance County, he was the son of Mr. Elbert Gregory Somers and Mrs. Lottie Smith Somers, both deceased.
He was a retired farmer and former member of Tau-Tribe No. 18 of the Redmen of Washington.
Survivors other than his wife include two daughters, Mrs. Sonny (Susan) Hooks of Havelock and Mrs. Troy (Valinda) Pinkham of Washington; two sons, Mr. Jerry Somers and Mrs. Steve Somers of Washington; a sister, Mrs. George (Pauline) Harrison of Burlington; a brother, Mr. Billy D. Somers of Washington; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Mr. Hubert Somers, Mr. Harold Somers and Mr. James Somers, and a sister, Mr. Eleanor Dare Somers.
A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Friedens Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gibsonville by the Rev.
Nelson Koonce.
The family will be at Hillside Funeral Service, 4500 U.S. 264 East, Washington, from 7:30 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home of Mr. Jerry Somers, 1158 Slatestone Road, Washington.
