Mr. Billy Daniel Somers

WASHINGTON, N.C. — Mr. Billy Daniel Somers, 71, 2500 Camp Leach Road, died, Sunday, Feb. 11, 2001, at Beaufort County Hospital in Washington.

A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Revonda “Vonnie” Boyd Somers, who survives, and the son of Mr. Elbert Gregory and Mrs. Lottie Smith Somers, both deceased.

He was a retired employee of appliance service department of Lowe’s in Washington. He served on the board of trustees of Faith Free Will Baptist Church and was a U.S. Navy veteran.

Survivors other than his wife of the home include four daughters, Mrs. Peggy (Jerome) Whitehurst and Mrs. Joyce (Kirk) Blackmon, both of Washington, Mrs. Rachel (Jeff) Clark of Greenville and Mrs. Deborah Sneed of Chesapeake, Va.; a sister, Mrs. Pauline (George) Harrison of Burlington; and 12 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Eleanor Dare Somers; and four brothers, Mr. Harold Somers, Mr. Hubert Somers, Mr. James Somers and Mr. Vance Somers. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Hillside Funeral Service Chapel by the Rev. Nelson Koonce and the Rev. Rodney Wilson.

Burial will be in Oakdale Cemetery. The family will be at Hillside Funeral Home from 7:30 to 9 this evening and at other times at the home.

Memorials may be made to Herb Winchester Scholarship Fund, Free Will Baptist College, Nashville, Tenn., c/o Faith Free Will Church, 641 River, Washington, N.C. 27889.
