Mr. Paul Frederick Somers
RALEIGH — Mr. Paul Frederick Somers, 75, of 3520 Dogwood Drive, died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh.
Born April 6, 1925, in Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Louise Welch Somers, who survives, and the son of Mr. Herman A. Somers Sr. and Mrs. Beulah Wren Somers, both deceased. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Wilders Grove Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School for 28 years. He served as a deacon and held various offices in the church.
He retired from Westinghouse after 28 years of service as a quality control inspector. He worked 10 years after retirement as a handyman.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three daughters, Ms. Sharon Michaels of Wake Forest, Ms. Carol Perry of Wendell and Ms. Terri Emory of Wilson; a son, Mr. Allan Somers of Wilson; four sisters, Ms. Doris Godwin, Ms. Marie Bunn, Ms. Bonnie Huskey and Ms. Shirley Gay, all of Elon College; two brothers, Mr. H.A. Somers Jr., and Mr. Ervin Somers, both of Elon College; and five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at L. Harold Poole Funeral Service Chapel.
Burial will be in Raleigh Memorial Park. The family will be at the funeral home one hour before the service, and at other times at the home. Memorials may be made to Wilders Grove Baptist Church, P.O. Box 14329, Raleigh, N.C. 27620.
