ELON — Doris Ellen Somers Godwin, 88, passed away Monday, Sept. 21, 2015, at her home surrounded by her family.
She was born in Alamance County to the late Herman Alexander Somers Sr. and Beulah Jane Wrenn Somers. She was a former employee with the Dairy Castle and was a member of Ossipee Baptist Church.
Survivors include her children, Richard Overman, Darline S. Harrell, Gordon Godwin and fiancée Deborah Ritchie; grandchildren, Jeffrey Harrell, Karen Goodson, Derek Godwin and Benjamin Harrell; greatgrandchildren, Mark Goodson, Cory Goodson, Jordan Harrell, Ryan Harrell and Faith Godwin; step greatgranddaughters, Maddie and Maggie Moeller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Herman “H.A.” Somers Jr., Paul Somers, Ervin “Bid” Somers; infant brother, Ralph Somers; sisters, Bonnie Huskey, Marie Bunn and Shirley Gay.
Doris was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great- grandmother and sister, she will be missed dearly.
Our mother’s wishes were to have a simple service at the grave with no visitation. The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23, 2015, in Alamance Memorial Park by the Rev. Jerry Johnson. The family will be at the residence.
