John Ray Kimrey Sr.
GIBSONVILLE — John Ray Kimrey Sr., 73, of 420 Smith St., died Saturday, July 28, 2012 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital after a sudden illness.
Born in Rowan County, he was the son of the late French McLedge Kimrey and the late Myrtle Mae Isley Kimrey and was married for over 42 years to Mrs. Kay Guthrie Kimrey, who survives. John worked for B.W. Murrell Construction for over 28 years and then later retired from Stewart Construction. He was a sponsor for Alamance County Ducks Unlimited for 23 years and was involved with the Hyco Hunting Club. He was a volunteer with the Gibsonville Fire Department for over 16 years, was a member of Gibsonville Lions Club and served on the Gibsonville Board of Alderman for two years. He was of the Methodist faith. John was a loving husband, father, stepfather and grandfather and cared for his family greatly.
Mr. Kimrey is survived by his wife, of the home; a daughter, Sue Kimrey Crutchfield; a son, John Ray Kimrey Jr. and his wife, Kathy; stepdaughter, Donna Kay Powell; and a stepson, Donald Ray Powell and his wife, Debbie, all of Burlington; eight grandchildren, Morgan Powell, Jonathan, Kristy and Kelley Kimrey, Derek, Stacey and Jessica Crutchfield,
and Erika Schollum and her husband, Clem; two great-grandchildren, Kupa and Harper Schollum; two sisters, Fay Hathcock of Clover, S.C. and Lurene Wilson of Burlington; and a brother, F. Baker Kimrey of Graham.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, Aug. 2, 2012, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. John Shields. Interment will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 Wednesday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
