James Reid Thomas
GIBSONVILLE — James Reid Thomas, 75, of 330 Burke St., died Thursday, August 7, 2008, at Liberty Commons after several months of failing health.
A native of Guilford County, he was the son of the late Isaac Milton Thomas and the late Rosa Smith Baulding Thomas and was married for over 51 years to Gail Isley Thomas, who survives.
Mr. Thomas was retired from Engineer Plastics with over 30 years of service and was also a Guilford County Firefighter and served as the fire chief for the Gibsonville Fire Department for 25 years. He was a member of the Guilford County Fire Association and was an EMT. He was a member of the Gibsonville Christian Church, where he served as the choir director for 35 years.
Mr. Thomas is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, LuAnn Chrismon and her husband, Billy, of Gibsonville, and Amy Smith and her husband, Mark, of Reidsville; and a grandchild, Corey Smith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Sarah Brogan and Mae Troxler; and brothers, Irvin Thomas, D.L. Baulding and the Rev. Eugene Baulding.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, August 10, 2008, at Gibsonville Christian Church by the Rev. Alan Kent, the Rev. Hobert Isley and the Rev. Don Lyerly.
Interment will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and other times at the home.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Liberty Commons and Hospice of Alamance-Caswell for the tender and loving care of Mr. Thomas.
