Irene Mae Gerringer Lee
   ELON — Irene Mae Gerringer Lee, 94, formerly of 3448 Hub Mill Road, died Wednesday, December 1, 2010 at Alamance Health Care. A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of the late Arthur Ogburn Gerringer and Martha Elizabeth Loy Gerringer and she was the wife of the late Horace Jackson Lee Sr.

   Mrs. Lee was a member of Bethlehem Christian Church in Altamahaw since her youth and served faithfully in many capacities over the years, including Sunday School teacher, president of the two missionary societies, Chairman of the Board of Christian education, building fund treasurer, choir member, and historian. In 1996 the church recognized her as Senior Citizen of the Year. In 1998 she received the church’s Jamima Sutton award for her more than 70 years of service as a Sunday School teacher. In 2008 she was honored by the church in a special ceremony for her years of leadership in foreign mission work.

   Mrs. Lee was retired from Glen Raven Mills, Inc. where she worked for more than 50 years at the Altamahaw Plant. She was also an accomplished seamstress and made many of her clothes.

   Survivors

   include her son, Jacky Lee and daughterin-law Claire Leslie.

   She was preceded in death by a sister, Mozelle Gerringer Smith Loy.

   A funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday, December 4, 2010 at Bethlehem Christian Church with the Rev. Dave Gilbert officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

   The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory.

   In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Foreign Missions Endowment at Bethlehem Christian Church, P.O. Box 127, Altamahaw, N.C. 27202, or Friendship Adult Day Services, 1946 Martin St., Burlington, N.C. 27217.
