Edna Gerringer Leonard

December 13, 1927 - July 13, 2014

Greensboro- Mrs. Edna Gerringer Leonard, 86, was reunited with her Savior and late husband, Vernon, on July 13, 2014. She passed away at Beacon Place and the family would like to thank the staff for their compassion and care during Mrs. Leonard's stay. A funeral to celebrate her life will be at 2 PM on Wednesday, July 16, officiated by The Rev. Jo Nygard Owens at Guilford Park Presbyterian Church where she has been a faithful member since 1958. The family will receive friends after the service during a reception in the fellowship hall.

She was born in Guilford County to the late Henry Rankin and Venie Michael Gerringer. Edna worked in retail for many years and also kept busy raising her family. She was married to Vernon G. Leonard in 1946 and celebrated 23 years together until his death in 1969.

Edna served as a former Sunday school teacher, was a member of Circle #3 and Almanah groups at the church. Her church family and friends were a very important part of her life. She will be remembered as an extremely caring woman who showed her compassion to others by visiting the sick and remembering special days by sending cards to celebrate meaningful moments in the lives of those she cared about. She loved photography and enjoyed her garden. She liked to watch the birds and butterflies that visited the flowers and feeders. Edna diligently planned the annual Michael-Gerringer family reunion, served as the family historian and loved all holidays. Her family will remember her as a wonderful mother, grandmother and great grandmother who made them all feel special if not just a little spoiled as well. She shared an especially close bond with her niece, Melba McCurry.

She is survived by her children, Sharon Leonard (John O'Rourke) of Snellville, GA and Tony Leonard (Rebecca Gray) of Greensboro; grandchildren, Tammy Leonard (Dale) Holder of Greensboro and Dawn Leonard (Kevin) Bellinger of Huntersville; seven great grandchildren, Chase (Shannon) and Madison Holder, Logan and Grant Hatley, and Grace, Jack and Ava Bellinger; great- great grandchildren, Ellie and Ava Holder and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Greensboro, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405 or to Guilford Park Presbyterian Church, 2100 Fernwood Drive, Greensboro, NC 27408. Online condolences may be made to www.haneslineberryfuneralhomes.com. Hanes-Lineberry N. Elm chapel is assisting the family. 3, Edna Gerringer Leonard
