CRUSHED TO DEATH.--------Falling Lumber Catches Sam A. Tate of Burlington. (Special to the Observer)
Burlington, Feb. 5--While stacking away some lumber in the plant of M. B. Lindsay this morning about 8 o'clock, Sam A. Tate was caught under 10,000 feet of lumber which fell from an overhead rack and was so badly crushed that he died within a short time after having been extricated. The pile of lumber was directly over Mr. Tate and was preciptated on him by the breaking of beams which supported the rack. Everything possible was done for the injured man, but he did not regain consciousness. Surviving are a wife and four children. The funeral will be helad in this city tomorrow. Mr. Tate was highly esteemed by his acquaintances and was 55 years of age.
