Douglas Moss Cooper died March 30, 2002, at Clapp's Nursing Home of complications from radiation treatments following a brain tumor.A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. April 2, 2002, at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, North Elm Chapel. The service will be conducted by Rev. Butch Sherrill and Mr. Tom Jolly of West Market Street Methodist Church.

Douglas was born in Eden, NC on April 4, 1964 to Molly Wilkins Moss and Simon Douglas Moss, Jr. He attended the Greensboro city schools and was graduated from Darlington School in Rome, Georgia. After graduating from Sandhills Community College in Landscape Design, he worked for New Garden Landscaping until his illness in 1993. Douglas loved the earth, his family, friends, and his dogs and he treated them all wonderfully. He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 206 and became an Eagle Scout. He was an avid backpacker and hiked in the Joyce Kilmer National Forest, the Great Smoky Mountains, and the Grand Canyon.

Douglas was preceded in death by Simon Douglas Moss, Jr.; grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Douglas Moss, Mr. Levi Peel Wilkins, Mr. and Mrs. Norman C. Cooper; and great grandparents Mr. and Mrs. T.B. Jones.

He is survived by his mother, Molly Cooper Brady; his stepfather James F. Brady; his father, N. Carter Cooper; his stepmother, Janice Bowers Cooper; his sister, Claire Cooper Tippens; his brother-in-law, Christopher S. Tippens; his uncle, Robert J. Wilkins; his aunts, Susan Moss Laughon, Margaret Cooper Woltz, and Sally Cooper Yancey; his grandmother, Ruby B. Wilkins; his cousins, George S. Wilkins, Emily Wilkins McCracken, Thomas C. Laughon, Jr. and Robin M. Laughon; his nieces, Sarah Kathryn Tippens and Allyson Douglas Tippens; and his dog, Sydney.

The family will receive friends at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home on April 1 from 7 to 9 p.m. and at other times, at the home of Molly and James Brady, 4803 Oak Forest Drive, Summerfield.

The family would like to thank Clapp's Nursing Center and its wonderful staff for the exceptional loving care given Douglas since he became a resident there in 1995.
