Emogene “Jean” Cook Carver
Emogene “Jean” Cook Carver passed away October 24 joining her deceased husband, William Dennis Carver, in heavenly communion.
Jean and Dennis shared 24 years of marriage bliss caring for each other and enjoying gardening, bowling, crafting, and spending time with family. 78 years of age, Jean was a native of Caswell County and the daughter of Weldon Cook and Alice Donivant Cook, both deceased.
Jean is survived by three stepchildren and five grandchildren: Denise Clark and husband Gary of Roxboro, Donna Carver and husband Dave of Raleigh, Michael Carver and partner Brad Kreulen of Arlington, VA, and grandchildren Stuart Clark and wife Caitlin of Roxboro, Heidi Clark of Roxboro, Evan Close of Greensboro, Will Close of Chapel Hill, and Crandall Close of Raleigh.
Jean is also survived by five nephews and two nieces: Mitch Cook and wife Amy of King, NC, Jim Phillips and wife Terrie of Waxhaw, NC, Buz Phillips and wife Diana of Raleigh, Al Cooke of Bowdon, Georgia and Brian Mooneyham and wife Jackie of Greensboro. Nieces include Lisa Mooneyham and fiancé Michael of Graham and Amy Gilmore and husband Tommy also of Graham.
Jean was preceded in death by four brothers: Henry Cecil Cook, Weldon Cook Jr, Earl Cook and Norman “Red” Cook, and two sisters Maude Phillips and Betty Mooneyham.
Jean was a kind, gentle soul and was dearly loved by everyone who she met and knew. Her southern culinary skills, especially her desserts, were matched by few and resulted in her German chocolate cake being “the best in the world!” Jean would often fondly remember hearing the gospel music of “the Carver Children” in the early 70’s not realizing at that time that these children would in fact one day become her very own.
Memorials can be made to Theresa Baptist Church at 3919 Chub Lake Road. A private memorial service will be held at a later time.
