Garland Laverne "Mac" McKinney, 75, of 3680 NC Hwy 150 died Thursday (Jan. 1, 2015) at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday (Jan. 4, 2015) at Trinity Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Gaylord Dix officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with full military rites.
A native of Rockingham Co., he was a son of the late Howard M. "Slick" and Edith Hope Hobbs McKinney and had lived in Reidsville most of his life. Mac was a member of Trinity Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the Cemetery Committee, was a former president and a member of the Brotherhood, an usher, and friend to everyone. He was a retired Master Sergeant with the US Air Force, serving in Korea and Vietnam, and later retired as a Letter Carrier with the US Postal Service. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother: Charles M. McKinney and a sister: Jacqueline "Jackie" McAlister.
Surviving is his wife of 56 1/2 years: Imgard Scherrer "Bobbie" McKinney of the home; son: Michael L. McKinney and Fiance': Starr Tuttle of Reidsville, daughters: Jeanette M. "Tina" Waller (John) of Reidsville, & Linda M. Neal(Steve) of Reidsville; grandchildren: Justin D. Waller (Beth), Amber W. Reed (Adam), Brittany K. McKinney (Neal Smith), Elizabeth A. Neal, Emily M. Bottomley (Mitchell), Garrett L. McKinney, Christopher T. Neal, & Joshua D. Malloy; great grandchildren: Natalie R. Smith & Blaine S. Reed.
The family will see friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday (Jan. 3, 2015) at Citty Funeral Home and at other times at the residence.
