Obituary for Evelyn Preston Summers
Evelyn P. Summers, 97 of Greensboro, died September 5, 2016 at Beacon Place.
She was born October 6, 1918 to Bohnson T. and Mary Murray Preston in Forsyth County, NC. She attended the Greensboro Bible and Literary School and later graduated from Pleasant Garden High School in 1935.
In 1950 she met, fell in love and married William O'Kelly Summers. She was employed at the Sears Roebuck Catalog Order Division for several years before leaving to raise her family.
She attended Christ Wesleyan Church for 95 years. She was instrumental in starting a ministry there for older adults, 'Friends and Neighbors.' She loved her church family and they loved and honored her.
She had resided at Aldersgate Apartments for the past thirteen years. She enjoyed making many friends there and participating in activities - especially bingo every Monday morning.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brothers B.T Preston and Ed Preston.
She is survived by her children, Bud (William O'Kelly) Summers and wife Cheryl; Barbara Cross and husband Leroy; grandchildren, Kelly Summers and wife Cassie, Kimberly Summers, Christopher Summers, Clint Cross, Erin Cross; and great-grandchildren, Haleigh Rainey, Ashton Rainey, Kessel Summers, Ransom Summers, and Kaylee Grace Summers.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM Friday, September 9, 2016 at Christ Wesleyan Church, 2400 S. Holden Rd., Greensboro, NC. 27407. Visitation will be for one hour prior to service from 12:30 PM – 1:30 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ Wesleyan Church at the above address or Hospice and Palliative Care, 2500 Summit Ave., Greensboro, NC 27405.
