Doris Turner Hartgrove
ROCK HILL, S.C. — Doris Turner Hartgrove, 90, a resident of Westminster Manor in Rock Hill, SC, passed away Saturday, January 23, 2016, after a brief illness. She was a former resident of Burlington, NC, living there for 40 years. She also lived in Lancaster, SC, Shelby, NC, Reidsville, NC as well as King, NC. Born to the late Banks Alverion and Lillie Forrest Turner on January 11, 1926, in King, NC, Doris married her high school sweetheart, Edgar Lee Hartgrove, on November 9, 1943. She worked briefly at Carolina Power and Light while Edgar was a student at NC State University. After his graduation, she became a full time homemaker and mother.
Doris is survived by her sons, Edgar Lee Hartgrove Jr. (Martha) of Winston-Salem, NC and Jeffrey Forrest Hartgrove Sr. (Sally) of Rock Hill, SC. She is also survived by her six grandchildren, Rebbeca Dixson (Matt) of Winston-Salem, NC, Jeffrey Forrest Hartgrove Jr. (Amanda) of Daphne, AL, Lindsey Lee Hartgrove (Alyssa) of Houston, TX, Mary Beth Hartgrove of Charlotte, NC, Ian Thomas Hartgrove of Rock Hill, SC and Anna Katherine Hartgrove of Winston Salem and six great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by hersiblings, Joe Reid Turner, Evelyn Turner Lawson, Ruth Turner Hauser and Wallace Alverion Turner.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Burlington, NC where she had been active in the New Beginnings Sunday School class before relocating to the Westminster facilities in Rock Hill.
Funeral arrangements are planned for noon on Friday, January 29, at First Baptist Church, Burlington, N.C. with visitation at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at King Memorial Park, King, NC, at 3 p.m. on the same day.
