Genevive “Jane” Amash
Genevive “Jane” Amash, 86, of Burlington, passed away unexpectedly at her home Monday, March 21, 2016.
Born in Jaffa, Palestine, on March 20, 1930, she was the daughter of Kusta Essa Kahoush and Salwa Najeeb Sbeer Kahoush.
Educated and married abroad, Jane came to the United States in 1955 along with her husband and growing family. She worked in textiles, and later enjoyed working for the Salvation Army and Taco Bell.
For all who knew her, Jane was a source of inspiration. Full of enthusiasm for life, she loved to laugh, enjoyed each day to the fullest, and lived in a manner that belied her years. Jane was passionate about her family, and was unwavering in her support and love for them. Jane, it seemed, never met a stranger, and perhaps because of her own experiences as a once-newcomer in a foreign land, she displayed a keen interest in others, sharing her belongings, her time and herself. She was known for her delicious cooking and used that great talent to make all who entered her home feel welcome. She was a woman of great courage and determination.
Jane was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Jiries Amash and one infant daughter. She is survived by seven children, Georgette Couch of Mebane, George (Chere) Amash of Graham, Jeanette Amash of Haw River, Julliette Church of Mebane, John (Becky) Amash of Haw River, James (Heidi) Amash of Greensboro, Jerry (Melissa) Amash of Burlington; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters Vera and Lorette, and one brother Bishara Kahoush.
A celebration of her life and legacy will be held Friday March 25 at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Burlington. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until noon, with the service beginning at noon. Interment will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Elon, NC.
