RALPH COMPTON OBITUARY

Ralph William Compton, 82, of 2435 Carolina Road, died Thursday, December 28, 2000 at home. He was husband of the late Nannie Mae Garrison Compton, who died in 1992.

He was born in Caswell County, the son of the lateJohn Lemuel Compton and the late Elia Mae Dunevant Compton.

He retired from Western Electric after 30 years of service. He was also owner and operator of Maple Grove Mobile Home Park. He graduated from Pleasant Grove School in 1936. Mr. Compton helpedin the founding and building of the Faucette Volunteer Fire Department and served as its first Fire Chief from 1962-1967.

Funeral 3 p.m. Sunday, December 31, 2000 at Lakeview United Church of Christ. The Reverend Reid Dickens, pastor of the church, along with Elder Wallis Smith, pastor of Bush Arbor Primitive Baptist Church will officiate.

Burial, Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum

Surviving: daughters, Mrs. Betty Ann (Walter) Thomas of Burlington, Mrs. Lillie Mae Bennett of Black Creek, N.C., Mrs. Linda (Leary) Tucker of Elon College, Mrs. Becky (John) Stevenson of Burlington, Mrs. Patty (Sammy) Carter of Mebane; sons, William L. (Margo) Compton of Blanch, N.C., Donald R. (Cindy) Compton of Burlington, Kenneth D. (Charlene) Compton of Mebane, James R. (Terri) Compton of New Hill, N.C.; 26 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mrs. Betty Sue Edwards and Mrs. Frances Dameron, both of Burlington; brothers, Walter Compton of Burlington and Wallace Compton of Baynes Community.

He was preceded in death by his wife and parents and a sister, Ms. Dessie Mae Compton and brothers, Hurley Compton and Zellie N. Compton.

Visitation: Mr. Compton will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until taken to the church tolie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral service.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-9 p.m., Saturday evening and at other times at Mr. Compton's home.
