Kenneth Monroe Guthrie, also known as "Cowboy", 81, of Gibsonville, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2025, one day shy of his 82nd birthday, at the Hospice Home in Burlington after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born to Curtis and Emily Guthrie in Burlington, NC, Kenneth was a devoted husband to Jean Guthrie for 45 years and a proud father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his wife Jean; sons Michael Guthrie (Marcie) Brett Guthrie (Tonja), and Jonathan Guthrie (Kimberly); stepchildren Raymond Shatterly (Theresa) and Jennifer Johnson (Rodney); grandchildren Caroline Brickhouse, Meredith Snyder, Will Snyder, Stacey Langdon, and Patrick Langdon; and great-granddaughter Aley Cook. He is also survived by his brother Neal Guthrie (Debbie) and sister Jane Faucette (Philip).
Kenneth was preceded in death by his stepdaughter Rhonda Langdon, grandson Austin Guthrie, and brother David Guthrie.
A graduate of Williams High School, Kenneth began his career with the local fire department before transitioning to truck driving, a profession he pursued with dedication and pride. Over the years, he worked with Burlington Industries, Sonoco Products Company, Perry and Turner Trucking, and Harris Trucking, where he retired in 2009. He was honored with a Safe Driving Award multiple times during his career.
Kenneth was an avid NASCAR fan who never missed a race. He had a deep love for classic cars and enjoyed meeting new people and striking up conversations wherever he went. He truly never met a stranger.
A faithful member of Glen Raven Baptist Church, Kenneth served as a Deacon, sang in the choir and ministered to his congregation with warmth and generosity. He was always eager to lend a hand and share his time with others.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Kenneth’s niece Carrie Guthrie who traveled from England to care for him over the past three months and to Kenneth’s faithful friends, Ray and Peggy Westbrook for their unwavering support and kindness.
A celebration of Kenneth's life will be held at the Rich and Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 2:00pm with family receiving friends from 1:00 until 2:00pm. Entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
