Helen Harper Brown
Mrs. Helen Harper Brown, 97, a resident of the Twin Lakes Community and formerly of Harden Street, Burlington, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016.
A native of Siler City, Mrs. Brown was the wife of the late Richard Lee “Bud” Brown, the daughter of the late Arlie Harper, the late Adgie Robbins Harper and the stepdaughter of the late Leona Harper Askew.
Mrs. Brown was a member of the Davis Street United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the United Methodist Women and the Golden Rule Sunday school class. She was also a member of the Bur-Gra Friendship Club.
She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Melda Kay James and husband Gene of Graham and Janice Lee Scott and husband Wilson of Burlington; five grandchildren, Melaina Hall, Brian Bolden, David Scott, Jason Scott and Greg Scott; eight greatgrandchildren, Joshua Hall, Kayla Hall, Tabitha Bolden, Christian Scott, Ian Scott, Evie Scott, Ben Scott and Paul Jolley.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Richard Douglas Brown; brothers, Ruble Harper, Robert Harper, Winfred “Ook” Harper; and her halfsister, Peggy Kernodle.
The family will receive friends Friday, June 17, from 1 until 2 p.m. at Rich and Thompson Funeral and Cremation Service in Burlington.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. in the Rich and Thompson Chapel. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorials be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or to the Building Fund of Davis Street United Methodist Church, 606 E. Davis Street, Burlington, NC 27215.
The family would like to express their special thanks to the staff at Twin Lakes and to Dr. Richard Letvak for the wonderful care they provided Mrs. Brown.
