Obituary Online notes for Alice Jean DICKENS
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Alice Jean Dickens Farrell, 78, of 2179 Carolina Road, Burlington, died Saturday, March 26 at 6:35 p.m. at Blue Ridge Healthcare Center in Raleigh after three months of failing health.
She was a member of the Faucette Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary and a lifelong member of Carolina Christian Church where she was on the Nominating Committee.
Survivors include sons, Renford Kendall Farrell and wife Maryann of Burlington and Barry Nelson Farrell and wife Mary of Burlington; grandchildren, Rhoda Hawkins, Christopher Farrell, Elizabeth Jean Farrell and Kendall Joseph Farrell; great-grandchildren, Jenna and Faith Hawkins; stepgrandchild, Chris Cook; great-stepgrandchild Kenneth Craig Cook; sisters, Nan Spears and husband Jim of Asheville, Priscilla Brande and husband Phillip of Greensboro and Judy Grubbs and husband Wilbert of Burlington; and a brother, Harper E. "Buck" Dickens Jr. and wife Betty Jean of Burlington.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Harper E. Dickens Sr. and Lucy Younts Dickens; husband Kendall Tyree Farrell; and sisters, Margaret Loy and Edna Hall.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29 at the McClure Funeral Home in Graham and at other times at the residence of the family.
The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 30 at the Carolina Christian Church by the Rev. Mark Mitchell and the Rev. Reid Dickens. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Carolina Community Cemetery.
