Claude Samuel Somers Sr., 76, of 1214 Barnes St. died Wednesday evening, Jan. 12, 1994, at his home.
Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at First Congregational Christian Church. Burial will be in Greenview Cemetery.
A native of Rockingham County, he was a self employed brick contractor, and a member of First Congregational Christian Church, where he served as a deacon and was a deacon emeritus. He was a veteran of World War II in the U.S. Army and a recipient of the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the American Legion Post 79.
Surviving are wife, Stella Chilton Somers of the home; sons, Claude S. Somers Jr., John E. Somers, both of Reidsville; daughters, Jean S. Toppings of Bethel Island, Calif., Gloria S. Gower of Reidsville; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; brothers, Clarence "Shug" Somers, James E. Soyars, both of Reidsville; sister, Audrey S. Coe of Reidsville.
The family will receive friends 7-9 tonight at Wilkerson Funeral Home, other times at the home.
