Cleo Gertrude Parker Scott
October 24, 1924 ~ December 26, 2022 (age 98)
Cleo Gertrude Parker Scott, born in Orange County on October 24, 1924, departed this life on December 26, 2022. She was the daughter of William Alvis Parker and Mary Watson Parker, both deceased. She was married to the late John D. Scott for more than 40 years and resided in Elon. She was of the Christian faith and was a charter member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Elon.
A graduate of Fuquay-Varina High School in Wake County, Mrs. Scott moved to Burlington with her family in late 1941 and graduated thereafter from Burlington Business College. She began her career as a bookkeeper and accountant with the Western Auto Company and later with Rhodes Furniture Company in downtown Burlington. For many years, she also worked as the manager and loan officer of Cabisco Federal Credit Union, serving numerous members at both Carolina Biological Supply Company and LabCorp, Inc. before retiring in the mid-1990s.
She leaves behind one sister, Carrie Lee Parker Rumley, four beloved nieces and two nephews, several great and even great-great nieces and nephews, and many cousins. She was preceded in death by her brothers Charles J. Parker, Al J. Parker. and a sister, Doris Parker McCauley.
A graveside service will be held at Alamance Memorial Park on Friday, December 30th at 11 AM, with the Reverend Dr. David Durham, Senior Minister of Elon First Baptist Church, officiating. Rich and Thompson Funeral Service of Burlington is in charge of funeral arrangements and services.
The family wishes to thank all of the administrative staff, numerous day and night-shift nurses, and Hospice caregivers from Liberty Commons of Alamance for the continual care that they provided during the last three years of Mrs. Scott’s life. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes for memorials to be made to Allied Churches of Alamance County.
