Paul McKinley Apple

Gibsonville – Paul McKinley Apple, 88, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at his residence surrounded by his family.

A native of Guilford County, he was born September 24, 1934 to the late Lexie McKinley and Helen Elizabeth Heath Apple and was the husband of 66 years to Almeta Smith Apple of the home.

Paul was a lifetime member of Hope River Church, formerly Brown Wesleyan Church, where he served as a trustee.  He was employed with Northstate Milling Company and worked as a Guilford County election judge for many years.  Paul farmed all of his life.  He was an avid gardener and for many years enjoyed taking vegetables to the farmer’s market.  He enjoyed fishing and was known by many as “Mr. Fix It” as he had a knack for fixing just about anything.  He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be missed dearly.

Survivors include his wife, Almeta; children, Paula Maness (Jeff), Steve Apple (Deborah), Heather Calhoun (Dennis); grandchildren, Meredith Bridges (E.J.), Jonathan Maness (Anne), Dustin Calhoun; great grandchildren, Jayden, Jeremiah and Judah Bridges; sisters, Mabel Powell, Margaret Smith and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Warren Apple, Rev. Charles Apple, W.J. Apple and sisters, Hallie Morton and Louise Robertson.

A service to celebrate Paul’s life will be held at 2:00pm on Friday, June 30, 2023 at Hope River Church by Rev. Larry Pope with the burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The family will receive friends from 12:30-1:45 prior to the service at the church and other times at his home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mobile Meals Rt 279, 1401 Benjamin Parkway, Senior Resources of Guilford, Greensboro, NC 27408.
