C. A. "Charlie" Greeson, Jr.

BURLINGTON - Charles Arlen Greeson, Jr., passed away on March 23, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

A native of Guilford County, Charlie was born on November 1, 1921 one of nine children born to Charles Arlen Greeson Sr. and Georgia Loy Greeson.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his two wives, Frances Allred Greeson and Wilda Mae Greeson.

He was a lifelong member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ where he was a Sunday school teacher and servant of his beloved church. At the time of his death, he was the oldest member of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ.

Following a successful career with AT&T I Lucent, Charlie retired in 1984 after 40 years of service. Wanting to remain active, Charlie became an avid gardener and enjoyed raising and selling produce at the farmer's market and area restaurants. He was known throughout the community for his German Johnson and restaurant size Mountain Pride tomatoes. Raising watermelons was another of his successful crops. Besides his tremendous work ethic, Charlie also found pleasure in community service activities. He served on the local school board and was an active Civitan. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball at Mt. Hope Ball Park, and for many years was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing. He was a gifted musician and always looked for an opportunity to play his guitar and make music with friends.

Surviving are his seven children; son, Clifton Greeson (Barbara) of Julian, son, Gerald Greeson (Linda) of Greensboro; daughter, Dreama Greeson of Durham, daughters, Gloria Stec and Janet Welker (Jeff) of Greensboro; son, Kevin Greeson (Melissa) of Greensboro, and Kelly Greeson (Robert) of Baton Rouge, LA.; 13 grandchildren, Cliff Greeson, Jr., Greg Greeson, Lawson Welker, Mary Welker, Lauren Stec, Parker Geglio, Caroline Stec, Charlie Greeson, Hanson, Robert, Kevin, Stephanie and Sarah Frances Greeson. His first great-grandchild is expected in August.

He is also survived by one sister, Helen Michael and one sister-in-law, Jaynee Brown.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers; Glen, John Henry, Bill, Burton; sisters, Alma, Mabel, Elaine; and one grandchild, Paige Victoria Welker.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Mt. Hope United Church of Christ on Sunday, March 26 at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Lynne Hinton and Rev. Kristin Gerner Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will greet friends at the church on Saturday, March 25, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and other times at the home.

Lowe Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

The family would like to thank caregivers, Sue Chapman, Melissa McGuire and Shirley Kime for the loving and compassionate care they provided for their dad and to Hospice for the wonderful care given.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the general fund of Mt. Hope United Church of Christ, 2400 Mt. Hope Church Road, Whitsett, NC 27377.
