Norfolk - Ryan Kernodle, 84, departed this life on July 18, 2012.
He was born on July 9, 1928 in Alamance County, North Carolina to Lynn and Annie Kernodle.
Ryan served in the 82nd Airborne Division of the Army during the Korean War and retired from the Engineering Department at Fort Monroe.
He was a charter member of the Kempsville Church of God.
Ryan is survived by his wife, Edna Kernodle, of 63 years, three sons, and eight grandchildren: Larry Ryan Kernodle, his wife, Edie, and their children, Dalton Ryan and Lani Nicole, John Eric Kernodle (Susan) and his children, Brandon, his wife Trisha and her son, Aidan, Chelsea, and John Harley, Kevin Drew Kernodle (Tammy) and his children, Morgan, Hailey, and Tanner.
He was predeceased by a grandson, Travis Ryan Kernodle.
A graveside service will be held Monday, July 23, 2012, at Forest Lawn Cemetery with Reverend Gayle Harris officiating. 470
