Shirley Minnis Oakley


BURLINGTON - Shirley Minnis Oakley, 82, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at ARMC.
She was a native of Alamance County and daughter of the late Omar Wingate and Beulah Clark Minnis.

Shirley retired from the Banking Industry and was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church and the Mildred Overman Sunday School Class. She sang in the church choir and also with the Alamance Chorale and Golden Harmonies Choir at the J.R.K. Shirley was a member of the Christian Women’s Club and a volunteer with ARMC, Hospice and the Kernodle Senior Center.

She is survived by her sister, Jennie M. Barrett of Black Mountain; daughter, Sharon Lloyd Dodson of Mebane and Barry Dean Lloyd and wife, Lisa of Kentucky; granddaughter, Kaylee Beth Lloyd; step sons, Steve Oakley and Bruce Oakley.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, William “Bill” Iverson Oakley.

There will be no formal services. Memorials may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance -Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 or the donor’s favorite charity.
