Fred C. Scheid Jr., 83, St. Joseph, Mo., died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at a St. Joseph Hospital.

He was born Feb. 26, 1924, on a farm west of Whiting, the son of Fred Scheid Sr. and Anna Chase Scheid. He attended grade schools and Whiting High School, graduating in 1942.

Mr. Scheid began working on his family farm at 14, when his father died. He continued working on the farm until the death of his mother. After leaving the farm in the early 1950s, he worked as a shipping clerk for the Slimaker Dress Factory in Holton, then later worked and retired from the Saunders Mop Factory in Atchison.

He married Velma Christie of Netawaka. They divorced. He married Verba McKeel Sochat on May 16, 1981. She died Jan. 11, 2006. He also was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and a sister.

Funeral services were held at Rupp Funeral Home in St. Joseph. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery. 470, Fred C. "Junior" Scheid, Jr
