Obituary Online notes for Betty J. LITTLE
Betty Little Summers
1919 - 2013

Betty Little Summers left this world on June 26, 2013, to join Leslie W. Summers, her husband of 69 years, who passed away in March of this year.

Betty was born to Sadie Alvey and Simon D. (Sam) Little, in Caldwell, Idaho, on April 25, 1919, to join her big brother, Arthur, and sister, Mary. She grew up in Caldwell, attending Caldwell Schools, and graduated from the University of Washington in 1941.

Betty knew of Les since her grade school years, heckling him when he was a catcher, as their rival schools played baseball. Little did she know that later, she would spend 69 years as his wife. They married on March 14, 1944. Betty and Les had two sons born to this union, David and Sam.

After returning from the U of W, Betty returned to Caldwell, to work for the local newspaper, editing the news of the community, as men were in short demand due to World War II. At that time, Les worked for Caxton Printers, when an unexpected opportunity presented itself. Through Betty's urging, Les bought the building in downtown Caldwell in 1943 that came to be known as Summers Office Supply, for the next 53 years. She managed the gift and card section of the store and Les managed the furniture and office supply section. Here, Betty made many friends throughout the community and in the business world. During her business years, she was member and a past president of the Soroptimist Club of Caldwell, and member of the Woman's Jaycees.

At the time of her death, she had been a member of P.E.O. Chapter F for over 50 years. Betty was honored a year ago, with a Paul Harris Fellow, from the Caldwell Rotary Club.

Betty's sense of humor and quick wit has been passed on to son Sam. Whenever he told a shocking story or joke, people would ask him where he heard that one, to which he would proudly reply, "MY MOTHER"!

During her lifetime, she had been a member of Boone Memorial Presbyterian Church. Betty believed that someday she would rejoin her beloved family that passed before her. Death was not her enemy, but a blessing, releasing her from the pains and confusion of her last year, allowing her to join her family members waiting for her in the hereafter. Preceding her in death, was her sister Mary, brother Arthur, parents, and husband, Les.

Survivors include her, sons-David Summers and Sam (Leora) Summers, granddaughters-Kara (Joe) Aburusa and Kristine (Zack) Turner, and great grandsons-Alec and Andy Aburusa.

Special thanks to the Heart & Home Hospice folks and her caregivers at Trinity Mission Health and Rehab of Holly. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice .

Family Greetings will be at Dakan Funeral Chapel from 6-8 pm on Tuesday, July 2.

Graveside services will be at Canyon Hill Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. on Wed, July 3, 2013.
