CHESAPEAKE - Jay Malcolm Watson, 79, passed away Dec. 20, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer.
He was the son of the late Elmer and Norvella Watson of Lowland, N.C.
A retired longshoreman with International Longshoreman Association Local No. 970, he was a member of Chesapeake Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Camille L. Watson; his stepchildren, Walter L. Stewart and wife Maralyn of Chesapeake; David A. Stewart and wife Linda of Frederick, Md., Gladys Goree and her partner Carol Marts of Littleton, N.C., Cammie Umphlett and husband Ron of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces, and nephews and cousins.
He enjoyed going to the gym and lifting weights as well as working in his yard and will be dearly missed by all those who knew and respected him.
A funeral will be held today at 2 p.m. in Chesapeake Seventh-day Adventist Church, 1200 Centerville Turnpike N., with Elder Charles Gomez officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. today. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions should be made to the Worthy Student Fund of Tidewater Adventist Academy, 1136 Centerville Trnpk. N., Chesapeake, VA 23320.
