Tommy Smith
Thomas Dwight (Tommy) Smith, 61, of 6149 NC Hwy 119 South, Mebane, NC, went to be with his heavenly Father on Wednesday, April 25. 2018.
Tommy was a loving son, father and grandfather. He never met a stranger and loved people. He was an avid outdoorsman that loved to fish, hunt and his passion was his trips to Carolina Beach, one of his favorite places to be.
Tommy was born in Danville, VA on September 24, 1956, a son of Georgia Ann Pleasant Smith and the late Bobby Dwight Smith.
Tommy was a graduate of the former Piedmont Academy and he attended Alamance Community College. He was employed by the N.C. Dept. of Corrections for 10 years and a retired farmer. Tommy was currently employed with Dixie Lawn Services as Crew Leader. Tommy was a retired Fireman with the Prospect Hill Fire Department and he was a member of Hebron United Methodist Church.
Tommy is survived by his mother, Georgia Ann Pleasant Smith of Mebane, N.C., son, Thomas Neal Smith of Mebane, NC daughters Carie S. Brantley and husband Shane of Mebane, N.C., Christy S. Bryner and husband Randy of Burlington, NC two grandchildren, Hunter Thomas Smith and Ava Lynn Brantley that he loved with all his heart, special sister-in-law, Anita B. Smith and the mother of his children, Nancy G. Smith.
He was preceded in death by his father, Bobby D. Smith and his brother, David Ross Smith.
A Memorial Service for Tommy will be conducted on Thursday, May 3, 2018 at 2 p.m. from Hebron United Methodist Church, 202 Hebron Church Rd., Mebane, NC, (Hightowers), by Rev. Ronnie Byrd and Rev. Paul Cecil.
The family will receive friends in the Church Fellowship Hall after the service and at other times they will be at the residence of his mother, 6053 NC Highway 119 South, Mebane, NC 27302.
A private interment will be conducted at a later time.
The family request that in lieu of flowers that memorial donations be made to the Prospect Hill Fire Dept., 11621 NC Hwy 86 S Prospect Hill, NC 27314.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all who took part in the Search and Recovery effort, including the Person County Sheriff’s Office, Roxboro-Person Rescue Squad, NC Wildlife Commission, Durham County Sheriff’s Office Search and Recovery Team and the Vance County Sheriff’s Office.
Also the family would like to thank Mr. Paul Jackson and Mr. Charlie Oakley for their efforts in the Search and Recovery.
