BURLINGTON — Mr. Herbert Clark Wagoner, 81, of 2966 Maple Avenue, died Sunday, May 13 2001, at Alamance Regional Medical Center.
A native of Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Hilda Burke Wagoner, who survives, and the son of Mr. Arnold David Wagoner and Mrs. Pearl Tate Wagoner, both deceased. He retired after 30 years as an employee with Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., and retired as captain with the Burlington Fire Department after 22 years. He completed 50 years in fire service in 1993. He was a former Scoutmaster and a charter member of the local chapter of the Civil Air Patrol. He was a member of the city of Burlington Traffic Commission. He helped to organize the E.M. Holt Volunteer Fire Department, where he was fire chief for 15 years and a volunteer fireman for 13 years. He was a member of the N.C. Association of Fire Chiefs and of the Alamance County Local Fire Protection Association. He was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church and of the Harper Burke Sunday School Class, a former usher, choir member, Sunday school class president and treasurer. He also served on the building committee. Survivors other than his wife of the home include a daughter, Mrs. Judy (Bobby) Wagoner Sutton of Yadkinville; two grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mr. Carl D. Wagoner. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Glen Hope Baptist Church by the Rev. Bob Stephenson of the church, Dr. Garry Baldwin and Dr. Bobby Touchton. Firemen will serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Glen Hope Baptist Church, c/o Building Fund, 911 N.
