BURLINGTON - John J. Jernigan, Jr., 85, died Wednesday, October 31st in Hospice Home of Alamance. He was formerly of Goldsboro where he retired from North Carolina National Guard as a Command Sargent Major with 34 years of service. He retired from the supply room of AT&T. He volunteered for 23 years at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Pharmacy. He was Past President of Rosewood Booster Club and was active coaching Little League Football at Rosewood.
Mr. Jernigan was a member of Westwood United Methodist Church and a 62 year member of Wayne Masonic Lodge # 112.
The family will receive family and friends from 1:30 to 2:30 pm Sunday at Evergreen Funeral Home, Hwy 70 West, Goldsboro with a graveside service following the visitation.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Jones Jernigan; two sons, Jay Jernigan and his wife Tara Riley of Burlington, and Jeff Jernigan and his wife Kimberly Summers of Walkersville, MD; daughter, Joan Jernigan of Laurel, MD; and grandchildren, Connor Jernigan, Lila Jernigan, Wesley Jernigan, Emily Jernigan, Seth Jernigan and Rachel Jernigan.
Flowers are welcome, but the family requests that Memorials be made to Westwood United Methodist Church, 130 Short Street, Goldsboro, NC 27530. 3, John J. Jernigan, Jr.
