Obituary Online notes for Alice TURNER
Alice Turner Masten, 86, of Walker Avenue and in recent years of the N.C. Baptist Retirement Home at Brookridge, Winston-Salem, passed away at Brookridge on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003.
She was born March 10, 1917, in Wadesboro, the daughter of the late Perry Boston Turner and Dora Alice Carroll Turner.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, William A. Masten; and by her sisters, Emily Margaret Wright and Kathryn Rhumell Turner.
She graduated from R.J. Reynolds High School in 1934 and was subsequently employed by F.W. Woolworth's, the Ohio State Life Insurance Co. and by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Co. She was a senior member of Ardmore Baptist Church, and active in all phases of the church. She had a special talent and love for music. She will be missed and remembered as a loving wife, mother, a grandmother and great-grandmother.
Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, William A. Jr. and Patsy Masten of Mooresville, Robert P. and Linda Masten of Winston-Salem and Thomas C. and Robin Masten of Charlotte; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kathryn and Sherrill Hudspeth of Winston-Salem and Mary Lou and Thomas Connelly of Mooresville; 13 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Turner Jones of King; a sister-in-law, Brona S. Masten of Winston-Salem; and a brother-in-law and wife, Luther D. and Betty Masten of Winston-Salem.
The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at Ardmore Baptist Church by Dr. Bill Ireland and the Rev. Logan C. Jones. Mrs. Masten will lie in state at the church 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, at Hayworth-Miller Silas Creek Chapel.
