Obituary Online notes for Floyd Grant COMBS
Floyd Grant Combs, 80, of Combs Street, Burlington died at the Hospice Home on Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 11:22 p.m. following a brief illness.
A native of Hillsborough, he was the husband of Clara Brown Combs, who survives and the son of Eli Grant Combs and Amy Watkins Combs, both deceased. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army serving during the Korean Conflict and retired from Western Electric. He was a former member of the CWA and Telephone Pioneers of America and an avid guitarist. Floyd was a member of Springwood Presbyterian Church where he taught the Adult Sunday School Class and served as a deacon, elder, elder emeritus and choir member.
In addition to his wife of the home, survivors include two daughters, Denise Harward and husband Barry of Mebane and Annette Gentry and husband Andrew of Graham; three grandchildren, Joshua Harward and wife Kasey of Raleigh and April Harward and Amy Harward, both of Mebane; a step-granddaughter, Miranda Gentry-Siegel of Wausau, WI; two sisters, Helen Barnwell and husband Ernest of Burlington, Opal Gilbert of Livingston, TX; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Combs and three brothers, Herman, Tommy and Gaither Combs.
The funeral service will be conducted at Springwood Presbyterian Church on Saturday, March 31, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. by Dr. Genie Martin and Rev. Bennie Smith. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
