Carole Nicholson Matthews
March 14, 1933 ~ January 18, 2024 (age 90)
Carole Nicholson Matthews, 90, of Burlington, NC, passed away at her residence on Thursday, January 18, 2024, after a courageous battle with cancer.
A native of Alamance County, she was the wife of the late William Mack Matthews and the daughter of Giles Garrett Nicholson and Mozelle Rich Nicholson, both deceased. She retired from Alamance County Department of Social Services-Children’s Services.
Carole was a lifelong member of Davis Street United Methodist Church. She will be sorely missed by her family and friends.
Survivors include daughters, Martha Matthews Denny and husband, Mark, of Burlington and Caroline Matthews Major and husband, Kent, of Tomball, TX; son, William Grant Matthews of the home; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Patricia Nicholson, several nieces and nephews, as well as her beloved friends in the “Mag 7.” She was preceded in death by a brother, Giles Garrett Nicholson, Jr.
The family would like to thank especially Toni and Anna, from Authoracare Hospice, for their compassionate care of Mom.
A memorial service will be conducted at the Rich & Thompson Chapel in Burlington on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. by Rev. Jesse Baker with the family receiving friends after the service.
