LIBERTY - William Richard Kimrey, age 79, of Liberty, North Carolina passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2022 at his home.
Richard grew up on his family’s dairy farm in Mebane where his love of tractors began. He enjoyed spending time on the Outer Banks, especially Ocracoke where he spent many days fishing from the surf. Among his favorite hobbies were, airplanes, woodworking, playing the dulcimer, and being aHam RadioOperator (KF4JPX). Richard was retired fromTriad Aviation in Burlington; he had his pilot’s license and even built his own plane and was anA& PAirplaneMechanic. A jack of all trades, he was a truemechanical genius. He held his family close to his heart and enjoyed spending time with them.
The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Saturday, March 5, 2022 from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. at Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty and other times at the family home. Funeral services will be private.
He was the son of the late John Dixon Kimrey, Sr. and Mary Ruth Isley Kimrey and was also preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Kimrey Gilliam and brother, J.D. Kimrey, Jr.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Stacey Kimrey Coleman (Jay); son, Travis Kimrey; son-in-law, Joel Gilliam; grandchildren, Katie Lindley (Neill), Ty Kimrey (Caitlyn), Ira Coleman (Ashley), John Kimrey; three great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty Vernon (Lee) andNell Phillips (Quentin); brother, Kemp Kimrey, Sr. (Diane); friend, former wife and mother of his children, PeggyYoung; and his beloved four-legged companion, Gibbs.
