Larry Wood McDowell of McLeansville, 70, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, December 8, 2017, after a brief stay at Wesley Long Hospital.
A 3:00 p.m. funeral service will be held at Hope River Church, Gibsonville, NC on Tuesday, December 12, 2017. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary prior to the service from 1:30 until 3:00 p.m.
He was the loving husband of wife Betty R. McDowell, and he was the wonderful father of Mark T. McDowell, wife Rhonda, of Pleasant Garden, and L. Wendel McDowell, wife Melinda, of Gibsonville. He was the proud Grandpa of Brandon, Cole, Ryan, Morgan, Whitney, and Lane McDowell.
Other survivors include sisters, Linda Cannon, Eunice Easterling, and Martha Davis, as well as brothers, Jerry and Ronnie McDowell, and special nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by sister, Opal Jones and brother, Roy McDowell.
He was a faithful church member for 47 years, at Hope River Church in Gibsonville, NC. He was a trustee, board member, head teller and member of the Friendship Sunday School class.
Larry loved his family, church and working in his garden. He was a faithful fan of his children and grandchildren attending their sporting events. He was a dedicated worker at Carolina Steel, Jones Metalworks, Pomona Foundry and retired from Tri-City Mechanical. He was a very gifted handy-man and found a way to fix just about anything.
